"Let Us Learn from Their Lives and Service,” Says CM Omar Abdullah as J&K Assembly Pays Tribute to Departed Leaders

Srinagar, Oct 23 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday paid heartfelt tributes to former Governor Satya Pal Malik and other departed legislators and ministers during obituary references on the opening day of the Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Speaking on the occasion, Omar Abdullah said the departed leaders had contributed in their own ways to the welfare and progress of the people.
“None of us is perfect; mistakes are inevitable, whether made knowingly or unknowingly,” the Chief Minister remarked, urging the House to remember the service and dedication of those who had passed away.

He also suggested that the Assembly adopt a more concise format for obituary references, similar to that followed in Parliament. “We are politicians, and politics often finds its way into our speeches. It would be more appropriate to pay respects briefly, without lengthy addresses,” Omar said as per KNS.

Welcoming the suggestion, Speaker Abdul Raheem Rather said it would be duly considered.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“As we remember them today, one day we too will be remembered. Let us learn from their lives and service,” the Chief Minister added.

Omar Abdullah paid special tribute to former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik, describing him as a seasoned public figure who served in multiple capacities as MLA, minister, and Governor of various states.

He also remembered late G. M. Shaheen as a courageous leader who continued his political journey with determination even after surviving a major landmine blast.

Expressing concern over an administrative lapse, the Chief Minister pulled up the concerned district officials for failing to inform the Assembly Secretariat about the demise of former legislator Mohammad Sultan Pandithpori.
“You have already taken note of the lapse, and I am sure the Chief Secretary must have also acted on it. An explanation must be sought from the concerned officers,” Omar Abdullah said.
